Out-of-this world original graphic novel from Oliver Tree and Orpheus Collar, avail for pre-order

ALIEN BOYS tells the real-life story of musician, director, and scooter icon Oliver Tree, picking up as he is thrown into the meat grinder of the music industry to promote his debut studio album "Ugly is Beautiful". Denied his chosen herbal medicine to overcome the aches and pains brought on by a deadly life in the fast lane, Oliver threatens to retire, prompting his label to find an out-of-this world replacement in Little Ricky, an alien with a sick mix tape….In a world too small for the both of them, Oliver and Ricky are forced to either become fast friends or throw down in a turbo-charged battle that threatens to destroy them both.

When I retired from comics in 2019, I didn't think there was anything that could draw me back...But as I was drawn into Oliver and Ricky's orbit, I connected with their struggles navigating art and commerce. ALIEN BOYS is a prescient and exciting tale, which, like the thumping bass-line of Oliver & Ricky's musical oeuvre, will resonate with people from all beats of life. For those interested in out-of-this-world scooter tricks, punching and kicking, ALIEN BOYS offers plenty of that too.

A true collaboration, Oliver and I are hard at work to make a classic for the ages. Little Ricky shall serve as special consultant on the book and Aladdin Collar will color it. Oliver Tree Vs. Little Ricky: Alien Boys will be released on April 13, 2021 and is available for preorder now through our intrepid publisher, Z2 Comics' website in both a standard edition graphic novel for $19.99, as well as a special hardcover deluxe edition, which includes an exclusive vinyl variant of Oliver’s final album Ugly is Beautiful for $99.99. Preorder now!

Egyptian Myth and Mystery from Rick Riordan and Orpheus Collar

An epic 5,000 years in the Making! The Kane Chronicles follows brother-sister duo Carter and Sadie Kane as they combat the forces of Chaos...aided by famous gods like Anubis, Thoth, Bast, and the like. The three-book series was adapted and illustrated by myself from the original novels by Rick Riordan, and individually created as The Red Pyramid, the Throne of Fire, and The Serpent's Shadow.

Adapting and illustrating The Serpent's Shadow, I wanted an extra level of authenticity in all scenes set in Egypt. So the first step was booking a flight to Cairo for two weeks of intensive sketching and photos... The research trip took me to the Pyramids of Giza and Dahshur, a sleeper train to the ancient city of Luxor a balloon over the Valley of the Kings, onto the backs of many camels and horse carts, and into at least one subterranean speakeasy that would make Indiana Jones blush...

The rest of the work was completed from my studio in Los Angeles. Big thanks to the the ever-talented Stephanie Brown, Cam Floyd, and Aladdin Collar, who provided color assists to the books. For a look at process, Rick Riordan has a good post on his blog.

Each volume was published by Disney Hyperion Books, and is available wherever books are sold. For more info, glimpses of the interior art, and behind-the-scenes sketches, follow along at the Kane Chronicles Graphic Novel blog.
